On April 23, according to reports published in national dailies, Punjab has unveiled a significant initiative under the leadership of Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz, titled “Apni Chhat Apna Ghar.” This scheme aims to provide 100,000 apartments in six major cities, marking a major development in Punjab’s housing sector.
The primary goal of the scheme is to build environmentally friendly and affordable housing for families with incomes below PKR 60,000, prioritizing those without existing residences. The cities of Lahore, Rawalpindi, Faisalabad, Sialkot, Multan, and Sargodha will be the initial beneficiaries of this program. Under this initiative, 3,000 homes will be constructed in each district of Punjab.
Notably, the scheme plans to build 3,000 apartments on Raiwind Road in Lahore. Each apartment will cost PKR 1.5 million, with the Punjab government providing a 60% subsidy. Families will only need to pay 40% of the total cost over a five-year installment period. The Social Protection Authority will be responsible for finalizing the scheme’s regulations.
